         Nellikai Gojju/Amla Sauce

Nellikai Gojju/Amla Sauce is a mouth watering  dish which can be served with chapati, dosa, rice,.... Easy to prepare and tasty to eat!!

Indian Gooseberry is called amla in Hindi. Amla is the size of a lemon, spherical, bitter and yellow-green. The taste of Indian gooseberry/Amla is sour, bitter and astringent, and it is quite fibrous. Amla shampoos and hair oil are traditionally believed to nourish the hair and scalp and prevent premature grey hair.

Nellikai /Amla: 5 - 6 nos.

Powdered Jaggery : 1-1/2 tbsp

Tamarind juice : 1-1/4 tbsp

Gojju powder : 2 -1/2 tbsp 

Grated coconut : 1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Oil: 1 tbsp

Asafoetida - Pinch

Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp

Turmeric - 1 tsp

Curry Leaves - 1 strand

1. Cut and Boil Nellikai /Amla in pressure cooker adding little salt.

2. Grind grated coconut with Gojju powder to a fine paste.

3. Heat the Oil in a pan, add Mustard seeds, once it splutters, add turmeric, asafoetida, Curry leaves,
boiled Nellikai /Amla pieces, Masala paste (step 2), tamarind juice, Jaggery, Salt to taste. Add little water and mix well. Let it boil for 5 mins.

Nellikai Gojju/Amla Sauce is ready to serve with Rice, Dosa or Chapathi.
