         Amla Sugar Candy - Step by Step Procedure

Medicinal use of Amla is endless. Eating Amla regularly will help you maintain good health. Amla pieces are sun dried and sweetened with sugar. You can store it in containers and use throughout the year. Only two ingredients amla and sugar are required for the preparation of the candy.

Along with amla sugar candy you can also prepare Amla Sharbat. You can use Amla syrup to make tasty amla drink during summer.

Health Benefits of Amla:

- Amla promotes healthier hair, and boosts the absorption of calcium, thus creating healthier bones, teeth, nails and hair.
- Helps to maintain youthful hair color and retards premature graying.
- It is rich in Vitamin C , and known to prevent premature hair-fall. The rich source of Vitamin C from the fruit acts as a great detoxifying agent for a sluggish liver, and helps to make the skin clear and radiant.

Here goes step by step recipe for Amla Sugar candy or Sweet Amla Pickle:


Amla: 1/2 kg ( 16 - 18 pieces)

Sugar: 350 gms



1. Boil water in a large vessel.

2. When water starts boiling add all the amlas in the boiling water. (Please make sure to put the amlas only when water starts boiling)

3. Boil amlas in the boiling water for 2 minutes. Switch off the flame.

4. Let it stay in the boiling water for 2 more minutes and strain the amlas. Allow it to cool. 

5. When they become cold, cut them using knife.

6. Put these amlas in a large vessel, pour 325gms of sugar so that it covers the amlas entirely. Powder the remaining 25 gms (2 tbsp of sugar) of sugar. This powdered sugar will be used later on after amlas sun dried.

7. Close the vessel and keep it aside for 3 days.

8. After First day sugar gets turned into syrup and amla pieces will be floating in the syrup. Stir the syrup and cover keep it aside for 2 more days.

9. After third day amla settles down at the bottom of the vessel and syrup at the top. Sieve the amla pieces and put them in sunlight to dry.

10. Sun dry these pieces for 2 - 3 days till it turns brown in color.

11. After drying coat these amla pieces with powdered sugar.

Amla sugar candy is ready to use. Store it in air tight containers. You can consume 1 - 2 pieces everyday.

Amla Sharbat:

1. Heat the amla syrup  from step 9 for few minutes, Keep stirring so that it  becomes quite thick. Allow it to cool down.

2. Strain it and store it in glass jar and refrigerate. Amla squash/sharbat is ready........

When you need Amla juice mix 2 tbsp of Amla squash/sharbat with enough water and ice cubs. Serve refreshing amla juice.

Amla Sharbat has distinct and unique flavor of amla.
